Avionics is a specialization within electronic maintenance and repair, focusing on aircraft electronics but encompassing a wide range of job types. An avionics technician is a specialist responsible for all the electronics on board an aircraft on a systems level.
What You Will Learn
Course Topics
- Installation and Maintenance: An avionician installs and maintains avionics
systems like instruments for navigation and engine monitoring, in-flight
entertainment systems, and more. - Repair and Upgrade: Avionics technicians repair and upgrade communication
and mission control systems, navigation systems, and on-board monitoring
systems. - Attention to Detail: The job demands attention to detail and a commitment to the very highest standards of quality workmanship as work is carried out on flight-critical systems that impact passenger and crew safety.
- System Qualification: Participate in system qualification and certification.
- Program Focus: The focus of this program is on the diagnosis, rectification, and maintenance of aircraft communication, navigation, instruments, electrical, and related subsystems.

Course Details
Program Duration
- The program spans 3 years, including both theoretical and practical training.
- 10 Months at MATA for theory and basic practical training
- 18 Months at an Aircraft Maintenance Organization
- 3 Months at MATA for your Trade test
Class Schedule
- Classes are held on workdays from 08:00 to 15:00.

Tuition and Fees
Certification
- Upon completion, you will receive certification from QCTO.
Admission Requirements
- 18 years and older.
- Grade 12/N3 or Equivalent
- Pure Mathematics 50% or higher
- Physics 50% or higher
- English 50% or higher

- Write an Aptitude test
- Pay deposit (Pay a non-refundable deposit)
- For all international students – You’ll require SAQA verification of your matric results and a valid study visa.
